What LAC does

What does the Los Angeles Council of Ski Clubs do for member clubs?

Why should we participate?  Los Angeles Council of Ski Clubs (LAC) acts on behalf of its member clubs. After applying for membership and paying a small annual fee, a ski or snowboard club can be associated with LAC.  By being a member of a ski club registered with LAC, members can participate in Council activities. They provide joint functions, coordination of inter-club activities. LAC clubs are automatically members of Far West Ski Association (FWSA) and can participate in their trips and the National Ski Club Federation and participate in their member benefits.

  • Web Pages  - As a member of LA Council, we put your information on the LA Council Web Page. If you have a club web page, we link to it. The LAC page gets a lot of hits and many clubs have said they get new members, and people interested in their activities from the Internet. www.lacouncil.org

  • Trips - LAC traditionally provides a one-week trip to some location. These are an excellent value. Most clubs cannot provide the accommodations and extras provided on these trips at the prices LAC gets by taking 250-300 people. In addition, as a Council-affiliated Club, members may go on the FWSA trips, without having to pay FWSA dues.

  • Referrals - From the web pages the Council membership person receives many inquiries regarding club membership and refers them to the appropriate LAC member club.

  • Discounts - Many discounts, both ski and non-ski related are available to club members.

  • Clearing House  -  The Council also acts as a clearinghouse for member Clubs to either fill their trips or get their Club members on other Club’s trips. Our travel VP compiles a listing and can be called to help fill a trip. This information is also on the web page for clubs to use.

  • Skier’s Guide  -  As a member of LA Council, we will provide your information to the Far West Ski Association Skier’s Guide. This guide is distributed all over several states to skiers, resorts, sport shops and to the ski industry. Many club members have found their club through this publication.

  • Insurance  - LAC conducted a very intensive study of insurance options available to clubs. In place is an umbrella policy, which gives clubs excellent coverage at one of the lowest costs available.

  • LAC Directory  - A polished directory is prepared each year with club information, contacts, and trips. This is distributed at Ski Dazzle, to sport shops and ski industry.

  • Club Interaction  -  In addition to winter ski racing, there are organized softball League and Volleyball leagues in the summer, which give Club interaction. Some years there are summer activities planned such as a picnic.  The Snow Gala is an opportunity to meet other Club members, cheer on Man and Woman candidates and have a fun time.

  • Training  - We provide information for Club Officers to help in administration: IRS rules, trip-bidding ethics, finding and keeping members, etc.

  • Race Leagues  - Being a part of LAC allows you to participate in a Race League (ULLR or Rokka) with other Clubs. The Race League organizes the races. Otherwise, our racers would not have the opportunities to race as they do now. There are two Race Camp weeks run by the Race Leagues. Rokka League runs one, and LA Council runs the other one.

  • Ski Dazzle  -  LA Council has a booth at Ski Dazzle. We prepare a brochure with all club information such as meeting location, and contact. These brochures are also distributed at ski shops and at ski areas. As a member of LA Council, you are invited to participate in Ski Dazzle. There are worker hours available which help your club earn money.

  • Recognition  - Each year LAC recognizes member Clubs that have supported Council activities through the year. The Man and Woman of the Year program recognizes your club members who work hard for you. As a member of LA Council, clubs are also members of Far West Ski Association and can participate in Far West Recognition in newsletter

  • Discount Benefits -  As a Council member, your club can participate in the discount benefits offered through FWSA and the National Ski Council Federation. These include discounts on rentals, equipment, and resorts.

LAC wants to provide a service to their member Clubs. What would you like the Council to do? Come support LA Council! Our meetings are 7:00 p.m. the first Monday of the month at The Grinder,  18521 S. Sepulveda, Westchester, CA 90045   (310) 641-8210.
